About the Artist

Marcell Dergecz – Artist Statement & Biography

Personal Motivation

Marcell Dergecz (born August 8, 2007, in Schwaz) is a young and emerging artist currently living in Ried im Zillertal, Austria. With Hungarian roots and a creative journey unfolding in Tyrol, his artistic path is both deeply personal and remarkably powerful.

Marcell lives with an autism spectrum condition accompanied by a significant speech development disorder. While verbal communication can be challenging for him, painting has become his most authentic and expressive language.

He began painting in November 2022 – and from the very first works, it became clear that this was more than a new activity. It was a discovery. A breakthrough. A way to connect with the world.

Artistic Vision

For Marcell, art is not a hobby – it is a necessity.

His paintings are driven by instinct, emotion, and an intuitive understanding of color and composition. Working primarily with acrylics, he creates dynamic, energetic pieces defined by bold brushstrokes and vibrant color palettes.

His work often explores:

  • the expressive presence of animals
  • abstract compositions that reflect inner emotional states

Each piece carries a sense of movement and intensity. There is no overthinking, no conceptual overcomplication – only raw, honest expression.

Marcell’s art communicates what words cannot. It is direct, emotional, and deeply human.

Professional Development

Although self-taught, Marcell’s artistic growth has been rapid and striking.

He is currently preparing for his professional future at Aufbauwerk Bad Häring, while continuing to develop his artistic practice alongside his education.

Despite his young age, his work already demonstrates:

  • strong visual identity
  • confident use of color
  • a distinctive emotional signature

This combination makes his paintings immediately recognizable and impactful.

International Presence

In a remarkably short time, Marcell has built an impressive international exhibition presence.

His works have been shown across Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, and the United Arab Emirates — a rare achievement for an artist at such an early stage of his career.

Selected international exhibitions include:

  • Vienna (City Gallery Vienna – Public Artist, 2024)
  • Munich (Galerie Maximilian,
  • Nymphenburger Schloss, Artoi Galerie)
  • Zurich (Swiss Art Expo, 2025)
  • Palma de Mallorca (Artboxy, 2025)

Awards & Recognition

At this early stage, Marcell’s most significant recognition lies in the growing international interest and exhibition presence his work has already achieved.

His art stands out not because it follows trends, but because it is undeniably authentic.

Closing Statement

Marcell Dergecz paints from a place where barriers dissolve.

His work is vibrant, emotional, and full of life – a reflection of inner strength, resilience, and a unique way of seeing the world.

In a time when art is often conceptualized and explained, Marcell’s paintings remind us of something more fundamental:

that true expression does not always need words.
